24 Oct Introducing COO Andrea Trevisan
We are pleased to welcome Andrea Trevisan as our newest Simwave team member. Andrea will be responsible for new developments, training, assessments, applied research and customer service within Simwave.
Andrea was born in Italy and grew up in the area of Venice. His passion for cruises was passed on by his family, ever since he was a boy. After a short period of sailing as a Cadet Officer on oil tankers, Andrea pursued his dream job by serving from Navigation Officer to First Offer on board cruise ships for companies such as Princess Cruises, Costa and Royal Caribbean International for over ten years. He sailed the globe with a zero accidents record and he trained many employees worldwide as a certified STCW trainer, assessor and supervisor.
In 2000, at the age of 26, Andrea obtained an unlimited Master Mariner license by the Italian Maritime Authorities, earning the title of “Capitano di Lungo Corso” (Captain of Oceangoing ships). A few years later in 2005, Andrea met his Dutch wife Esther on board of the Legend of the Seas. He decided to move to The Netherlands to start an onshore career as lead ISO 9001/ISM auditor/surveyor for an agency in Rotterdam with an interval as Marine, Safety and Security Superintendent for a Swiss owner. During this period, Andrea executed over 100 ISM/ISO 9001 audits worldwide.
Later, in 2008, Andrea joined the busy freight training desks of BHP, the world’s largest mining company, where he managed the multi-million dollar operations of a fleet of Panamax and cape size bulk carriers, as well as performing as bunker trader. Andrea was part of the BHP Freight Crisis MT and he developed the Freight Academy Course, for which he also trained many BHP participants from all over the world.
In 2012, Andrea joined one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, Damen Shipyards. At first as Regional Manager for a number of countries in southern Europe, developing the markets and selling newbuild ships in the Damen portfolio. In 2017 he was appointed to lead the commercial activities for a Damen new venture: cruise ships. He became the Damen Cruise brand frontman, as well as the Damen ambassador at industry associations such as the CLIA, FCCA, AECO and IAATO. Later on, Andrea signed the first cruise newbuilding contract for Damen (Seadream, February 2019), which was the largest single commercial newbuilding contract ever signed by the Damen Group. In addition, Andrea contributed to the introduction of Damen to the river cruise market, succeeding with the JV Concordia Damen and the contract for a Rhine Max river cruise for A-ROSA which became effective in March 2019.
Andrea is a genuine people person. He is very interested in the human element, the importance of maritime safety and the strength and synergies within teams. Andrea is extremely excited to become part of the Simwave team as of November 1st, which will feel as a “homecoming” for him.
