Bridge Resource Management

Introduction

The focus of this course is to provide the participants with the knowledge, skills and understanding of leadership and teamwork at the operational level on board a ship. We offer this course in accordance with the SimWay method: we enrich the standard Bridge Resource Management (BRM) approach with specific components building higher competences for the navigational officers. We make use of the highest available level of maritime simulators in the world.

 

Besides this course it is possible to extend the course up to 5 days with company specific procedures and more complex scenarios and situations.

Learning objectives

  • Comprehension on the impact of weather conditions (wind, current and swell), loading conditions, shallow waters, banks and narrow channels on the behavior of the ship;
  • Good understanding of the importance of passage planning and escape route planning;
  • Knowledge on efficient bridge procedures and bridge teamwork during normal circumstances and emergency situations
  • Comprehension on the importance of interactive and clear communication in order to achieve a common goal.
  • Communication skills for briefing including closed loop communication (to avoid misunderstandings).
  • How to execute and monitor a passage planning making best use of all available resources.
